We’re Business Image, a small web design and local SEO team in Dunfermline, Fife, led by Nadin Thomson. We have been building business websites since 1999.
Most clients come to us with the same problems.

How we got here
We started in 1999. Nadin built her first website for a Scottish small business that wanted to be findable online. She liked it enough to keep doing it. The business launched properly in 2004 and we incorporated as a Ltd company in 2005. The same year we won Best Web Designer in West Lothian. The following year we were runner up for the Shona Sibbald Award for Best New Business.
In 2007 Nadin trained as a photographer, which is why we still offer photography, video and time-lapse in-house today rather than farming it out. In 2014 we added time-lapse and construction photography as their own services and launched our hosting service the same year.
2019 was the biggest year in the company’s history. Nadin’s mother retired from her own web design business and we took it over, inheriting more than 30 German clients overnight. That is why we still work in both English and German. The same year, Mo qualified with the Civil Aviation Authority for drone aerial work, and we moved all client websites to green hosting through the Green Web Foundation.
Covid changed how we worked. Small business owners from all over the country turned up on Zoom asking about their websites and SEO. We started teaching as much as building. In 2021 we moved the studio to Dunfermline, and Nadin completed her postgraduate diploma in digital marketing the same year.
Denise joined the team in 2022, the same year we became a Scotland Living Wage Employer. Teagan joined in 2024. The four of us have worked together for years, not a rotating cast of freelancers.
Today we focus on one thing. Building websites that rank, load fast, and bring in enquiries for UK trades and service businesses, plus a long-standing German client base where Nadin works in her first language.
Research first
A typical project starts with keyword and competitor research, not mood boards. We map what people actually search for, then plan the sitemap and the content around real buyer intent. The visual design serves the brief, not a template. Pages exist because someone is searching for them, not because a template had a slot to fill.
Built for speed
Every site we launch passes Core Web Vitals and PageSpeed before it goes near a live URL. We test at every mobile breakpoint, not just a desktop preview. A slow site loses visitors before they have read a single word. Speed is part of the build, not a bonus.
One team for design & SEO
We do not pass projects between siloed teams. The same people who design your site also write the on-page SEO. Titles, meta, headings, schema and alt text are part of the build itself, not a retrofit two months later. By the time the site goes live, Search Console is set up, the sitemap is submitted, and the site is ready to rank.
We stick around after launch
A website is not "done" when it goes live. It is done when it is indexed in Search Console, all tracking is in place, and you have been trained to run it yourself with proper handover docs. After that we keep iterating. Sites are measured and improved, not launched and forgotten.
Things we will not do
We will not build on bloated themes or page-builder demos. We will not treat Yoast green lights as an SEO strategy. We will not stuff keywords or pad your website with pages no one searches for. We will not guarantee rankings or specific timelines, because nobody honestly can. We will not sell you a tool or a tactic you do not need.
A website only keeps delivering results if it keeps being looked after. Google changes the rules, competitors move, your services evolve. Most of our work now is ongoing monthly support: care plans, SEO and content, so the website you launch this year still earns its keep in years to come.
Meet our team
Four people, working together for years, all hands-on with client work. No account managers in the middle, no offshore subcontractors.

Nadin Thomson, founder and lead web designer
Nadin built her first website in 1999 and has run Business Image since 2004. She holds a postgraduate diploma in digital marketing and a business degree. She is hands-on with every project: research, design, build, on-page SEO and ongoing improvements. She is not the part of the agency that disappears once the brief is signed.
Mo Thomson, photography, video & IT
Mo handles every visual asset that is not a web page. Time-lapse, construction site photography, video, and aerial work under Civil Aviation Authority permission for drone flights. His work has appeared in BBC programmes and is regularly promoted by Visit Scotland. He has just finished his third year of time-lapse work at Gleneagles Hotel.
Denise, digital marketing assistant
Denise has been with Business Image since 2019, first on a freelance basis, then officially joined the team in 2022. She runs social media content and scheduling, writes blog posts and website updates, and is the person who makes sure every site we manage stays mobile-friendly and properly secured.
Teagan, digital marketing trainee
Teagan joined in 2024 while still a student. She is gaining real working experience on live projects, supporting admin and digital marketing tasks.
